- AGS is Maruti’s name for its automated manual (AMT) gearbox. It costs ₹50,000 more than the manual.
- CNG costs ₹92,500 more than petrol on the same variant, and is only available on the Delta and Zeta.
The basics
- Size: 3990 mm long with a 2520 mm wheelbase, so there is good space in the back.
- Boot: 318 litres (petrol).
- Engine: a new 1.2 litre, 3-cylinder engine, making about 83 PS on petrol and about 70 PS on CNG.
- Claimed mileage: 23.80 to 24.77 km/l on petrol and 33.61 to 34.47 km/kg on CNG.
- Warranty: 3 years or 1 lakh km.
Safety
Good news first: six airbags and ESP with hill hold are standard from the base Sigma upwards. ABS with EBD, ISOFIX and rear parking sensors are also on every variant. You don’t need an expensive variant for basic safety.
The Baleno has a 4-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating.
Variant by variant
The monthly figures below are the extra EMI for each step, assuming a 5-year car loan at 9% interest (every ₹1 lakh adds about ₹2,075 a month).
1. Sigma: ₹5.99 lakh
What you get: six airbags, ESP, all four power windows, keyless entry, manual AC, tilt steering, halogen projector headlamps and 15-inch steel wheels.
What you miss: there is no music system and no speakers, the mirrors are manually adjusted, there are no rear AC vents, and it comes only as a petrol manual.
Stop here if: your budget is very tight. You can fit a music system later, but you can’t add rear AC vents later.
2. Delta: +₹1 lakh (about ₹2,100 more per month)
What it adds: a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 4 speakers, steering audio controls, rear AC vents, rear USB fast charging, tyre pressure monitoring and electrically adjustable, folding mirrors. The AGS automatic and CNG options start here.
What you miss: no rear camera, no driver seat height adjustment, and the headlamps are still halogen.
Our view: skip the Delta manual. Another ₹1 lakh gets you the Zeta, which is much better value. But if you need an automatic on a budget, the Delta AGS at ₹7.50 lakh is the cheapest automatic Baleno.
3. Zeta: +₹1 lakh (about ₹2,100 more per month)
What it adds: LED projector headlamps, automatic climate control, a rear camera and a height-adjustable driver seat. You also get a 9-inch touchscreen with 2 tweeters, 16-inch alloy wheels, push-button start, a wireless charger, tilt and telescopic steering, and a rear wiper and washer.
It also gets Suzuki Connect, which lets you track and lock the car from your phone. This is a subscription service.
What you miss: the 360-degree camera, cruise control, ventilated seats and leatherette seats.
Stop here if: you want everything a family really needs. The Zeta is also the top CNG variant. For most families, this is the right Baleno.
4. Alpha: +₹1.10 lakh (about ₹2,300 more per month)
Petrol only.
What it adds: a 360-degree camera, a head-up display, cruise control, ventilated front seats, leatherette seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, LED fog lamps, an auto-dimming inside mirror and a Clarion sound system.
Our view: ventilated seats are genuinely useful in an Indian summer. The rest is nice to have, not essential.
5. Alpha (O): +₹40,000 (about ₹830 more per month)
Petrol only.
What it adds: Level 2 ADAS, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking and high beam assist.
Climb here if: you are already going for the Alpha. These safety features can never be added later, so the extra ₹40,000 is worth it.

Petrol or CNG?
The CNG version costs ₹92,500 more. We estimate it takes more than 50,000 km to recover that extra cost through cheaper fuel.
Our estimate: with petrol at ₹95 a litre and CNG at ₹80 a kg, and the Baleno’s claimed manual mileage, petrol costs about ₹4 per km and CNG about ₹2.40 per km. That recovers ₹92,500 in roughly 57,000 km. Real-world mileage is usually lower than claimed, so use your own city’s fuel prices.
A simple rule: if you drive more than 1,500 km a month, choose CNG. If you drive less, choose petrol.
Our pick: Zeta
₹8.00 lakh (petrol manual), or ₹8.92 lakh with CNG.
Quick picks for every buyer:
- Tight budget: Sigma (₹5.99 lakh).
- Automatic on a budget: Delta AGS (₹7.50 lakh).
- All the family essentials: Zeta, petrol or CNG. It costs about ₹4,150 a month more than the Sigma.
- Lots of highway driving, safety first: Alpha (O) (₹9.50 lakh).
