Before you pay the dealer

Road tax is the biggest extra. It is paid once, for 15 years, and depends on your state, the fuel and the car's price.
You don't have to buy the dealer's insurance. Compare quotes online; the same cover is often cheaper.
"Handling charges" are not allowed. If a dealer adds them, ask for them to be removed.
TCS is not a cost. On cars above ₹10 lakh, 1% TCS is collected, but you can claim it back when you file your income tax return.
